We’re deeply saddened to share an update on the recent vandalism on the B.L.T. Rails to Trails. After spending countless hours assessing the trail, our volunteers have found that the damage is far worse than we initially feared. A large vehicle tore through the trail, damaging over ten gates from Timberlea all the way to Hubley. Gates have been ripped off, bent, and some completely destroyed—essential parts of our trail’s security and safety now in need of urgent repair.
The RCMP is investigating, and we’re asking for help from anyone with information to please contact the RCMP or reach out anonymously via Crimestoppers. Every tip counts.
While the trail is still usable, the damage has left a real impact on our community’s cherished space. To make matters more challenging, our insurance won’t cover these repairs. We’re looking for ways to fund this costly restoration, including asking for donations to help us bring the trail back to the safe, welcoming space we all know and love. Donations can be made through our website’s portal, and any amount, big or small, makes a difference.
We are so grateful to our dedicated volunteers who have dropped everything to work on this. Their commitment to the trail is a testament to how much it means to all of us.
Thank you to everyone in the community for your support, understanding, and for standing with us through this difficult time. We’ll share more updates as they come.
