The BLT Rails to Trails Association is urging all trail users to respect the Province of Nova Scotia’s directive to close all trails and wooded areas as of August 5 at 4:00 p.m., due to the heightened risk of forest fires.
We fully support this provincial decision. It’s a necessary step to protect the trail, the people who live in Nova Scotia, and the first responders who put themselves at risk during emergencies.
During this current board’s tenure, we’ve seen the impacts of extreme weather and natural disasters first-hand — from heavy snowfall and wildfires to the significant destruction caused by flash flooding. These experiences remind us that when it comes to safety, caution must come first.
We ask all users to avoid the trail during this closure. Even though there may not be signs or tape at all trail entrances, the trail is officially closed and off-limits to the public.
If you see individuals accessing the trail during the closure, please report it to the RCMP non-emergency line at 902-490-5020.
To report a fire or emergency, call 911 immediately.
We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to keeping our community safe.
